The white water lily and the yellow water lily are the two species of this aquatic plant most used in herbal medicine. The white water lily has sedative (it “puts to body asleep”) and antispasmodic properties (it prevents involuntary muscle contractions). It is indicated for insomnia, anxiety, diarrhea and cough. It also has an anaphrodisiac action and is used to reduce sexual arousal, especially in nymphomania (very strong sexual desire) or priapism (erection lasting several hours). Yellow water lily is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial genital infections. Thanks to their healing effect, the two plants act effectively against burns, chapped skin, skin inflammation, solar allergies (solar erythema) and skin cracks.
